Food Trip Friday #17: Papaya

Part of my diet includes fruits like Papaya. Kids hardly taste papaya and didn’t like the taste at all. They only know papaya as a green vegetable. They love this when cooked with tinola though. When we were kids, we ate half-ripe papaya dipped in vinegar, salt and pepper.

The papaya (from Carib via Spanish), papaw or pawpaw is the fruit of the plant Carica papaya, in the genus Carica. It is native to the tropics of the Americas, and was first cultivated in Mexico several centuries before the emergence of the Mesoamerican classic cultures.
Papaya can be used as a food, a cooking aid, and in medicine. The stem and bark are also used in rope production. (source: Wikipedia)
